A slow reflective Marathon song - about the ultimate Olympic (and personal) challenge

Slower and more reflective, this Marathon song captures the thoughts, feelings and attitude to the Marathon itself.It is quite a mature song and therefore is ideal for older children, or even a soloist.All in unison, it gives you the opportunity to concentrate on the words, diction and dynamics.

This song is written for Key Stages 2 and 3 with these purposes in mind.

1. It should be enjoyable enough for the children to want to sing it.
2. Improving words and diction (great for literacy throughout the curriculum).

How did it all start? As most of us know, it started in ancient Greece with a heroic run over adistance of just over 26 miles. The Marathon has always been the focal point of the Olympics,but who could have predicted what a world-changing event it would become?That lone runner could not possibly have imagined how much money would be raised forcharity as a result of his efforts! How could he have guessed that 35,000 runners would take tothe streets of London each year to cover the same distance? But they do! And it’s a wonderfulevent, especially when we consider the number of pain barriers they have to pass through!I’m sure they often ask themselves, as does our next song, “Why do we do this?”
